AMOK!
Status
Just as combatives differ from martial arts and tribes differ
from MA schools, knifing status differs from martial rank. Martial
Arts generally blend academic and fighting requirements into
rank levels, while AMOK! keeps these two things distinctly separate.
AMOK! Merits
Tribal Leaders are authorized to teach, test and certify members
for complete knowledge and technical ability of the tactical
hierarchy and its supporting practices. There is no status associated
with these documents. Members must first accrue Academic Merits
to qualify for a Status Trial.
Tribal leaders guide and prepare their students to undergo a
status trial, but TL’s do not have the authority to issue AMOK!
status. Strata of Status. Members are all persons who join the
AMOK! Brotherhood who are in training.
Some members train for a very long time without their status
elevating beyond membership. Never underestimate these persons:
Often, they are quite skilled. Novice knifers have proven functional
proficiency in the required Tactical realms. Proficient knifers
have proven functional profciency in the required Tactical realms.
Advanced knifers have proven advanced proficiency in the required
Tactical realms. Experts have proven their functional proficiency
in the required Tactical realms. Some experts are allowed to
teach outside of the Tribal context. (Expert categories: Blade-to-Blade,
Empty Hands-to-Blade, Improvised Weapons, & Specialties)
Instructors have proven functional proficiency in the required
Tactical realms and they have personally developed other functional
knifers. (Instructor categories: Blade-to-Blade, Empty Hands-to-Blade,
Improvised Weapons, & Specialties) There are only a handful
of AMOK! Instructors worldwide.
Guardian is the individual who guards and takes command of AMOK!
leadership when the founder dies.
Status Trials
There is only one way to earn Status in AMOK!; you fight for
it - tooth and nail. Status Trials are physically rigorous performance-based fighting examinations that demand and extract
the sum of your courage, judgment, and skill. Status Trials
characteristically resemble the intensity and chaos of streetfights.
There is no credit for academics (academics get you in the door).
There is no credit for time in training (weeks/months/years
are irrelevant).
In Australia, Mr. McHugh is the sole authority to administer
AMOK! Status Trials and issue commensurate documents to ensure
AMOK!’s demanding standards are uniform and based strictly on
fighting ability
AMOKS are typically unconcerned with titles. Applauding that
correct attitude, we also know that preparing for and subjecting
oneself to a rigorous pressured performance examination is,
for the experience itself, a valuable form of training and is
embraced by true fighters eager for the chance to operate at
their highest level in a challenging adversarial atmosphere.
